Waves of Excitement

This was a fun painting I recently completed.  A friend of mine was showing me photo's of her kids and she ran across this one.  I immediately was drawn to the little girl in the pink shorts!  This is my friends Granddaughter but it really could be my own daughter at that age as well.  The excitement of her stance and the softness of the colors in the sea really touched me.  I knew right away I wanted to paint this scene and try to capture it's innocence.  I thought by removing the older kids and just focusing on the little girl it would have a sweetness and draw to it.  I often look at photo's and try to see if there is something special I can take from a specific moment.  You don't have to copy everything you see in a photograph to a painting, you can always make it your own.
